Safety Alert - Lithium-ion Batteries
Ace Liftaway are experiencing an increase in lithium–ion battery packs being put into wheelie bins and skips on hire. Batteries are classed as Hazardous Waste and should not be put into our containers for disposal. Customers have a duty of care to ensure that the waste type that is being deposited into bins matches the EWC code provided with this service. Lithium–ion batteries are highly explosive and can cause fires very quickly when in a waste recycling facility or compactor vehicle. When compacted or impacted, they create a high temperature explosion.
Please can customers ensure that no lithium–ion batteries are deposited into wheelie bins/skips and that all waste types are in line with legislation. Customers not complying with their duty of care could face additional charges from Ace Liftaway or prosecution from the EA. Lithium batteries are commonly found in electrical appliances like printers these are classed as WEEE items and must be disposed of separately. An example of these batteries is shown above.
